Green for Growth and Top Tips
I enjoyed delivering my seminar to Gatwick Diamond Business members recently. Entitled Green for Growth, I presented jointly with the University of Brighton’s Green Growth Platform.
Starting with an introduction to environmental management and the commercial benefits, I then advised what to do in your business, from developing policy, identifying impacts, KPIs and an action plan.
I finished off by introducing ESHCon’s Top Tips, giving some examples from the list of 100 tips covering energy, transport, waste and water:
- Make good use of natural daylight
- Turning down the heating by 1°C can cut gas use by 8%
- Reduce car journeys by grouping appointments together
- Look for inefficient use of materials & unnecessary wastage.
Lorraine Bell from the University of Brighton then gave an introduction to their Green Growth Platform, a five-year programme to support and expand the green economy in Sussex. She explained the range of advice and support available, including case studies of successes and grants / funding available.
Low Carbon Workspaces – up to £5000 for energy efficiency measures and advice
Sustainable Routes – £1000 to cut travel costs
Grants for Eco Innovation – £3000 to promote your new product or service
