It's got a remarkable, one shot music video too. The idea of sympathy that peters out or is otherwise 'unfinished' led me to think of sexy widows (spending time researching vintage pulp paperback covers will do that kind of thing to you, promise) and this terrific cover by Robert McGinnis is a classic of that genre.
