One of the showiest native penstemons, Prairie Penstemon features large, tubular flowers that vary in color from almost white to purple. It spends most of the year as a small, insignificant rosette, then shoots up 1 to 1 1 2 foot stems a couple of weeks before blooming in the spring. The blooms are white to purple, and each is about 2 to 3 inches long. They will grow in part to full
